Reflection of Storyboard

I think that the storyboard we created was very clear as to how we want the video to be structured. The individual images showed clearly what shots we wanted to achieve when filming. The storyboard only contained brief descriptions of the shot and location because we didn't want to be held back by our own plans and wanted the ability to be able to expand on our initial ideas. The voice over was really helpful because it expanded on the ideas a bit more so that when we were filming we had clear prompts on how the footage was to be filmed.

Logo Creation

To create the logo for our band we decided we wanted to incorporate the band's name in the logo. Throughout the music video and the website and set, there is a prominent theme of pop art. We decided to integrate this into the logo as well. I went online and used an online website that allowed me to create a pop art logo.

This is the finished result:

Behind the Scenes

Group Name Research

To research band names we used the website Name Generator. On this website we filled out a survey and then the website generated multiple name ideas for us. We chose a couple of our favorites and thought of some on our own. With these names we created a survey on Survey Monkey and sent it out to contacts.

We decided on the name CAKE for our band.

We decided on this name as not only did we want something simple, but a deeper meaning is that cake is something sweet, but stylised with capital letters is implied as being shouted rather than just said, which symbolises how our group is intended to be celebratory of typically "sweet" feminine things (lipstick, glitter, the colour pink) but also have a strong, aggressive edge.

Additionally, through our teacher and further research, I found out that cake is a type of drug - while this was an unintended link, it fits in with our video, which has very psychedelic/trippy shots, and use of a kaleidoscope. Additionally, both mine and Phoebe's performances are intended to come off as slightly deranged, which is a further link.
CAKE was a suggestion I made, and was originally inspired by the line "I want to be the girl with the most cake" from 'Doll Parts' by the riot grrrl band Hole, as well as the song 'Cake' by indie/punk musician FREAK (whose name is also stylised in all capital letters).

However, after realising that we had no imagery or lyrics relating to cake in any way, we changed our name to "CAN'T SLEEP" - again, we decided to stylize it with capital letters.
We decided that this fitted our brand more, as not only do we show a sign in our video that says "I can't get no sleep", but as previously mentioned, we as band member's act in a deranged fashion, and Phoebe's character is given a deliberate messy/sleep-deprived look (smudged makeup, messy hair etc).

Previous names suggested include
Blush

Cake Slice
Lonely Hearts Club

Website Research Analysis

This is a screen cast video reviewing The Script's official website. I completed this research to give myself a better ideo of how band websites flow and what they include. It also higlighted to me the importance of synergy and the up keep of themes throughout the whole website.

Visual Timeline of lyrics

This presentation shows a timeline of the shots we are planning to use in our video. We created this so we have a clear image in our head of how the video will look.
